Risky Business: A Look Inside America's Adult Film Industry
examines the social, psychological, and economic impact of performing in adult films. What makes people decide to become adult entertainers, how do they go about entering the business, what are their experiences in the business, and how do they deal with career options, finances, and relationships once they exit the business? The documentary also examines proposed regulations that would address current industry issues, including workplace health and safety, such as mandatory STD testing and condom use, and job discrimination once performers decide to leave the industry and pursue conventional employment.

Dave Pounder is a retired adult film producer, director, and performer. He is president of Dave Pounder Productions and was executive vice president at Daydream Entertainment Group from 2003-2008. Dave entered the adult industry in 2001 and went on to direct over 100 titles for leading adult entertainment companies including BangBros.com. The Book Obscene Thoughts
: A Pornographer's Perspective on Sex, Love, and Dating examines progressive, intellectual and academic constructs regarding mate selection, sexual behavior and the reasons why people cheat. Obscene Thoughts investigates and deconstructs core socioeconomic and biological values and the sexual behaviors of men and women, in a fresh, distinct manner.
Dave co-hosted Real Talk, a radio show similar to Loveline that originated in 2001 at the University of California at Irvine (88.9FM KUCI), where listeners called in to discuss issues related to dating, relationships, pornography, politics, and current events. In 2007, Real Talk was schedule to air live on 97.1FM KLSX in Los Angeles, but CBS Radio cancelled the program due to concerns regarding a perceived endorsement of pornography by the network.
Dave was signed to Baron Entertainment, an elite SAG franchised talent agency in Los Angeles. He is a member of both the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA). He has appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Weakest Link (winner), Blind Date, 5th Wheel, and in music videos for Fiona Apple, Engine Down, and the Willowz.
Dave played an active role in advocating for performer health and safety, having consulted with BioCollections Worldwide to expand STI testing and access to secure online test results. He is a strong proponent of federal legislation mandating condom use in the production, distribution, and retail sales of adult content; state legislation mandating monthly performer testing for STIs including HIV, Chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, hepatitis, and herpes; raising the legal age limit to perform in adult films from 18 to 21 years; state-licensing adult entertainers; creating a .xxx top level domain to house adult related websites; and imposing a small excise tax on consumer sales of adult products and services to help fund comprehensive sex education, rape counseling/support services, child protective services, and shelters for victims of domestic abuse.
Dave has consulted for the Los Angeles County Health Department, The California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (CAL-OSHA), The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), and several wall street investment banks. He also has given speeches and lectures regarding adult entertainment at Indiana University, The University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), Emory University, and several other respected academic and policy institutions.
Dave holds a bachelors degree in finance from the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University, a masters degree in information management from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State Univeristy, and he was accepted, with full scholarship, into doctoral programs at Indiana University (Bloomington) and Concordia University (Montreal) to research sexual decision making and evolutionary psychology. He was also accepted into the graduate program in public health at UCLA.
Dave is the executive producer of Risky Business: A Look Inside America's Adult Film Industry, a political and public health documentary that examines the social, psychological and economic impacts of performing in adult films. He is also the author of Obscene Thoughts: A Pornographer's Perspective on Sex, Love, and Dating, a book distributed by Amazon.com that examines the behavioral economics of sex, love, and dating from an evolutionary perspective.
